In 2017 Megan Hess became an ambassador and resident illustrator for the distinguished and celebrated Australian Ballet Company. Megan combined her artistic abilities in conjunction with the Australian Ballet to create an exclusive collection of illustrations as part of Illustrate Create’s Twelve Create project and by creating a fanciful deck of playing cards inspired by the Australian Ballet’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
For Twelve Create, Megan sought inspiration from a selection of local, Australian and international designers and reinvented the traditional ballet pointe shoe to uniquely represent each brand.
Megan’s interpretation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland focused on what Megan found funny or interesting about each character as a child – the rabbit with his very dapper waistcoat and his little watch, the Mad Hatter with his giant hat. She then turned these interpretations into glamorous and whimsical illustrations
