Life of an Artist: Creating for you

By September 30, 2026No Comments

I spend so much time in my studio dedicated to the structured rhythm of writing, drawing, and bringing so many wonderful creative projects and books to life. While I love collaborating on those ventures, I also find I need to step away from deadlines and create art entirely for myself.

These quiet, personal moments allow me to explore new ideas without any external expectations which is really important for the creative mind.

I recently finished these two illustrations and immediately hung them on my bedroom wall, creating a personal gallery that serves as a daily reminder of why I fell in love with art in the first place!

When an illustration is born purely from personal motivation, it carries a different kind of energy. It doesn’t belong to a project, a client, or a deadline: it belongs completely to me.

Taking that time to create just for you is a vital need for any creative. It protects your passion from becoming purely mechanical and it helps with something that can plague any artist—burnout. These two pieces on my wall aren’t just decorations; they’re tangible proof that my creative voice and love for what I do is still thriving!

While creating for others is deeply satisfying, there is a distinct, irreplaceable rejuvenation that comes from making something entirely for myself and seeing it live on my own walls each morning and night.
