Megan’s Travel: Venice

By October 26, 2023No Comments

Ah Venice, my first stop on my little getaway! The architecture is stunning, just like the rest of Italy, but there is something so unique about Venice with the boats sailing gently along the canal as you stroll amidst these historic buildings that captures me entirely.

Every time I step foot on the canal, I fall in love with this city all over again. The fa̤ades of the buildings always captivate me, the windows with their signature style against these gorgeously painted walls are incredible to see. And I love that some have the exposed brick peaking through Рa testament to how old they are. I could really stare at these buildings and paint all day, I find them endlessly inspiring!

Whenever I go overseas, I have to buy at least one book. I love finding illustrated travel books and seeing how other artists capture these beautiful cities – I have a towering stack of travel books at home! One that I picked up in Venice was so beautiful I just had to have it as soon as I spotted it. Capturing the streets and sights of Venice, artist Jiro Taniguchi beautifully depicts this stunning Italian city. Flicking through the pages while sipping on a delicious Aperol Spritz was the perfect way to start my trip!

We were only in Venice a few days, but I think I lost count of how many times I had to stop and take photos of the canals – I was just so captivated by the history and beauty of it all. It’s simply too easy to get lost in the splendour of Venice and I can’t wait to return again.
